Sheffield Green party members will join with other groups at the Campaign Against Climate Change rally and march in London on Saturday November 4th. They will also be urging the council to follow the government's lead at a conference this Thursday in Sheffield "Climate Change - "Local Leadership of a Global Issue". Cllr Jillian Creasy comments :
"The reality of climate change has been outlined for us this week in the Stern report - the time for action is now, locally and nationally. I hope the London rally sees a mass joining together of people determined to tackle the biggest problem the world faces.
The conference on Thursday needs to mark Day 1 of Sheffield City Council getting serious on climate change. I fully support the Sheffield Campaign Against Climate Change campaign to get the council to adopt 3% annual emission reduction targets. Appointing a cabinet member to champion tackling climate change, as recommended in the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Climate Change Action Plan, would be a clear statement of intent."
