Nurseries in excellent condition!

Contrary to the propaganda campiaign waged against it, the Norton Nuseries are described as being in excellent condition by visitors who claim that "it is a first-class facility that is a credit to Sheffield". In view of the seemingly incompatible claims they looked themselves.

Here's a quote from one letter:

"the facilities are in first-class condition and any garden centre would be pleased to have them. There were thousands of plants in the biggest greenhouse I had seen in my life. There were also loads of folk in council jackets working flat out at getting hanging baskets ready to display around the city. They are very proud of Norton Nursery and very proud of the floral displays that they produce. They are also very upset that the nursery is branded a derelict eyesore, when it evidently isn't. I found it very easy to accept the claim that £100,000 had recently been spent on the site".

The site is open to the public and you can buy plants there, contrary to the story in the press is that the site is not been accessible to the public. On the gateway is a large sign saying "Open to the public".

There is the "Green Fingers Project" that that teaches horticultural skills to people with learning difficulties. It is a very worthwhile cause and one that St Luke's claim will be retained if the hospice moves to the site. There is a major problem. Without the large greenhouse they would have nowhere left to carry on the project.

Why not go and check for yourself?
