Councillor for Central Ward

In the 2005 General Election he saved the first deposit for the Green Party in Central constituency. In the 2006 council elections he joined Jillian Creasy as a Green councillor in Central ward.

Bernard is an Occupational Therapy Assistant helping to rehabilitate people with neurological damage at the Northern General Hospital. Recently, when the bus service that gets him to work was withdrawn, Bernard responded by setting up a walking groupfor colleagues to get to and from work. Reflecting on this experience he said, "My feet are suffering but I hope this will help to ease parking problems at the hospital," and adds, "thousands have lost their bus services in the last year or so and it can have a devastating impact on your life. " Sheffield Green Party beleives that more journeys made by foot, bicycle and public transport will help essential car users, and Bernard says that "getting back control of the buses is the key to that strategy."

Bernard believes that our communities are under threat. " We must protect and support local shops, community businesses, post offices, doctors, schools and community facilities from going out of business. The local community needs to be a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can live, work and learn the social skills necessary to make us feel safe and secure. The continuing rise of the supermarket and failing public transport are really hurting local communities"

Bernard's hobbies include cooking, walking, cycling and making music. Bernard has been active in green politics for 30 years through highs and lows. "Over the years I have I introduced both Green MEP Caroline Lucas and Cllr Jillian Creasy to the Green Party. Both are inspirations to me and the workload that Jillian has taken on as a single councillor over the last two years demands respect. I have supported her with case work and research during that time and I'm ready to join her as a counciloor in Central ward. The opportunity to work together as the first Green Party group on the council beckons and I've been working flat out for months to achieve it ".
