SUSTRANS Wins

12th December 2007

Bernard Little. Green Party Parliamentary Candidate for Sheffield Central, said.

"This is really good news. The Sustrans walking, cycling network will benefit the every day lives of thousands of people across the UK. It's good for communities, peoples health and the environment. This is the future shape of our transport infrastructure as we come to terms with ridding our addiction to oil and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. This massive vote in favour of a scheme like this should send a strong signal to the Prime Minister. It is scandalous that we should have to rely on the lottery to fund essential public services like this. Let's see the Government switch money from its highway building programme into local walking and cycling highways that are integrated with public transport.

Sustrans are now in a great position to become a primary adviser to the government's transport strategy. "
