Calls for Bank Holiday Buses
20th December 2007
Sheffield Green Party
today condemned the lack of bus services on New Year's Day and
Boxing Day. They say the missing buses are a sign of the poor
service provided by private operators.
Green Party Transport Spokesperson Rob Murphy
said 'Many people wish to travel on Bank Holidays with sporting
events, visits to relatives and 'days out' high on the list
of festive activities. On New Year's Day we have train and tram
services but no buses. Once again the unregulated bus network
is leaving potential passengers stranded.'
He added 'To reduce traffic congestion
we need a fully integrated public transport system, and this
is impossible without local authority control of the buses.
Reliable and comprehensive public transport benefits everyone
car drivers and non-car drivers, businesses and residents, young
and old.
