Gearing up for the General Election
4th October 2007
Sheffield Green Party
is ready for the challenge of a general election this autumn
and is fielding candidates in at least two key constituencies,
Sheffield Central and Sheffield Heeley. The Green Party achieved
21% of the vote across Sheffield Central constituency in the
May 2007 local elections.
Cllr Bernard Little, who has represented
Central ward since 2006, will again be mounting a serious campaign
as part of a long term strategy to win the seat. Cllr Little
is a leading campaigner in the city on environmental and social
issues and is a member of the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport
Authority and a Trustee of the Debt Support Unit.
He said, The other parties are not
prepared to make the big decisions that will protect our children's
future. We need to build vibrant local communities in Sheffield
that are socially and environmentally secure.
In Sheffield Heeley, the Green Party candidate
will be Gareth Roberts.
An active member of Sheffield's creative community, he is self
employed in the arts and cultural industries, and organises
the Green Fair, Green Drinks, Open Air Theatre and Heritage
Open Day events. He is an executive member of Sheffield Civic
Trust and member of the Green Economics Institute.
