Greens re-elect Councillor in Central
Ward
4th May 2007
The Green Party is
today celebrating he re-election of Green Councillor Jillian Creasy
in Central Ward, proving that the Greens are here to stay in Sheffield
Town Hall. The Greens are now the third party in Sheffield, the
Tories having lost their group status. Cllr Creasy and her colleague
Bernard Little, together with the remaining Conservative and single
independent, now hold the balance of power in the Council. The
Greens came second in Broomhill with 28% of the vote and gained
10% of the vote (12,853) across the city, where the party stood
candidates in every ward. They also made a gain in Stocksbridge
Parish Council where Dan Lyons won a seat.
"This is significant for us and
for our supporters because shows we are not just a flash in the
pan, but force to be reckoned with. Now we can carry on fighting
for the things people in the city want; like decent, affordable
housing; better public transport; local jobs that stay in Sheffield
and no privatisation of schools and hospitals", said Cllr
Creasy.
" People like our policies and are
now realising that we can win in Sheffield and that votes for
us are not wasted. We will be joining not only the councillors
from other parties in Sheffield Town Hall, but also the growing
number of Green Councillors across the region and the UK."
