Green Councillor Creasy joins car
club
29th March 2007
Green Councillor Jillian
Creasy has become one of the first members of Sheffield Car Club,
which will be officially launched on Tuesday April 3rd.
"The Greens have supported this initiative
from the start", saild Cllr Creasy. "It will reduce
congestion and parking problems and is ideal for businesses and
people living in or near the city centre. People can also use
public transport for commuting into town and hire a car on an
hourly basis for occasional journeys which really need one. The
first four parking sites are all in the city centre - we hope
very much that more will be established in surrounding areas such
as Hillsborough, Heeley, Sharrow, Sharrow Vale, Hunters Bar".
Cllr Creasy lives close to the city centre
and uses her bike for most journeys, including commuting to her
job as a part-time GP in Firth Park and attending council meetings
in Central ward. "But I do need a car perhaps twice a month,
for example when I am "on call" and giving lifts to
my elderly mother-in-law. I'm really looking forward to being
able to use a smart new car for just £5 an hour".
