Green Party spokesperson on Transport, Rob Murphy, said;

"We agree with the police spokesman who stated that the main cause of last weeks gridlock was sheer volume of traffic. Until the council realises that traffic reduction is the only long term solution, we are condemned to regular repeats of nights like these."

"The current policy of traffic management is a diversion of money and resources away from public transport and protection of local facilities, such as schools and post offices, which reduce the need to travel."
