Greens Welcome Communities Bill

Green Councillor Jillian Creasy will be calling on the Council today to officially welcome a bill supporting local communities and the environment, which has been adopted as a Private Members' Bill. and may eventually be passed as law by Parliament. The Early Day Motion which led to the The Sustainable Communities Bill was signed by Sheffield MPs Nick Clegg and Clive Betts and 361 other MPs from all the main parties.

"This bill aims to promote local economies, services and facilities, protect the environment, reduce social exclusion and increase local involvement, and says that Central Government should help local authorities and communities to do this." says Cllr Creasy, who is putting forward a motion at the Full Council Meeting on Wednesday (Dec 6th). "In April I urged the council to write to all the Sheffield MPs asking them to support it. I'm very pleased that two MPs did, and now I'd like the Council to write to them to thank them and to encourage other MPs to support it too."
