Peace campaigner "Deacon
Dave" to address Sheffield Green Party AGM
Sheffield Green Party
will look back on a successful 2006 at their Annual General Meeting
on December 6th. Special guest speaker will be "Deacon Dave"
Havard, who will address the meeting days after his return from
a 2 month peace mission in Palestine, where he and other human
rights workers have been trying to protect local people from being
harrassed by Israeli settlers. Adults and children have been attacked
while harvesting olives, walking home from school and even in
their homes.
Party Co-chair Bernard Little said, "We
are proud of what Dave has achieved, especially as the Green Party
has always been (BEEN) anti-war and pro-human rights, and we are
glad to have him back safe and sound".
Co- chair Cllr Jillian Creasy reflects on 2006
: "Bernard Little joined me as a second councillor in Central
ward giving us group status on the Council. We continue to campaign
on the local economy, housing and transport while we have worked
with other groups on climate change and antiwar/human rights campaigns.
In the community we are working on small green spaces, litter,
recycling, cycle and walking routes. We held an "office warming"
at the Town Hall in November that attracted members, friends and
supporters in big numbers. It was a clear indication of the increasing
impact that we are making across the city - our membership is
up 15% this year alone. We expect to build on this in the 2007
council elections"
