Health

According to the city's director of public health, Sheffield people are healthier than in many big cities, but there are still inequalities. Life expectancy for residents of the poorest housing estates is up to 13 years shorter than those living in the south-west of the city. Sheffield Green Party has three priorities to boost public health. We want to help more people to give up smoking, improve the health of children and young people and promote healthy living and better access to services, especially in areas where health is poorest

What the Green Party is doing.

  • Supporting good, local services and continuity of care.
  • Calling for a focus tackling of drug, alcohol and cigarette addiction.
  • Calling for support at grass-roots level for carers in the community, both professional teams and personal individuals.
  • Opposing insurance-based care, such as the contracting-out of the commissioning of services for NHS.
  • Opposing the take-over of basic health care services by companies such as Tesco, Virgin and Asda and other multinational corporations.
  • Calling on PCTs to make their decisions in local healthcare clear and transparent.
