The UK Green Party now has more elected representatives in more influential positions than ever .There are 2 Members of the European Parliament, 7 members of the Scottish Parliament and 2 London Assembly members. 92 Greens sit on 38 different Principal Authority Councils - including Districts, English Counties, Metropolitan and London Boroughs and are part of the ruling administration on a number of them. We have a member in the House of Lords too.

Sheffield Green Party

Jillian Creasy was elected as the first Green Party councillor on Sheffield City Council in Central ward in June 2004. In May 2006 Bernard Little joined Jillian as the second Green councillor in Central ward. Across the city our share of the vote increased by 50%. We are now in a position to elect further councillors in a number of wards including Broomhill, Nether Edge and Gleadless Valley.

This year we intend to build on this success.

We meet fortnightly on alternate Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 to 10pm in a room at St Andrews Church, Hanover Way (200 yards from the University tram stop). It has disabled access and a disabled toilet. Potential new members are very welcome to attend, but as the venue may change please contact us first.

Life on Earth is under immense pressure. It is human activity
which is threatening the well-being of the environment on
which we depend. Conventional politics has failed us because
its values are fundamentally flawed....

Core Principles from the Green Party's Manifesto for a Sustainable Society. The question, often, is who has control of the sluice gates. Usually the cities get the electricity and the rural inhabitants
of the river valley bear the damage.

Fred Pearce -author of When the Rivers Run Dry

What the Green Party stands for

Everyone has the right to a decent standard of living in an unpolluted, peaceful world

We must use the Earth's resources in a fair and sustainable way or there will be no future for any of us

The main threats come from big businesses and financial institutions which make their profits at the expense of people and planet
