Dear Sir,
Almost 20 years ago I was excited as I was
going to see an FA Cup Semi-Final at Hillsborough, the home of
my favourite team. I got to the ground expecting to see a great
game of football instead I witnessed carnage and the death of
96 people.
This tragedy was one of the worse in worldwide
football history. It is of course remembered in Liverpool where
so many of the dead were from but in Sheffield we tend to forget
about it. There needs to be an appropriate memorial inside theHillsborough
football ground and an act of remembrance on 15 April.
The people affected by this disaster were not
just from Liverpool. There were many local people, fans from Nottingham
and other places, who attended the match who will never forget
the horrors they saw. We need to have a place where we can go
to remember those who died and to reflect on that terrible event.
We have not been able to learn any lessons
from this tragedy as there has never been a full inquiry. Those
who lost loved ones have never had a sense of closure and we can
only hope that this disaster will not repeat itself again.
Yours sincerely
