Introduction

About us : Join the Greens: Make a Donation : FAQ's : How we manage our finances : Standing Order Form : Why should you join the Green Party :

In Sheffield, we make up for a decentralised part of the national Green Party and aim to create a just, equitable and sustainable local community in Sheffield. We focus our efforts primarily, though not exclusively, through the electoral system.

If you aren't sure what the Green Party is about, then it would be worth while reading our FAQ page which answers the frequently asked questions. You may also wish to read the issues and policy pages to find out a little more about us. Here, you will find that greens share a vision of community-based politics, social justice, non-violence, and a sustainable future.

Real Progress and Gaining Recognition

Jillian Creasy was elected as the first Green Party councillor on Sheffield City Council in Central ward in June 2004. This followed a sustained increase in our share of the vote in council elections over the previous 5 years. Bernard Little almost doubled his vote in Central constituency in the 2005 General Election. In the 2006 council elections he joined Jillian Creasy as the second councillor in the Central Ward and Jillian was re-elected in 2007. This meant that the Green Party in Sheffield became an official group in the Council chamber, with out own office at the Town Hall. In 2008 Rob Murphy was elected in Central Ward to become our third councillor.

Real Progress across the UK

The UK's Green Party now has more elected representatives in more influential positions than ever before. There are 2 Members of the European Parliament, 2 members of the Scottish Parliament and 2 London Assembly members. The Green Party has 126 councillors on 43 councils across England and Wales.
